UNIT 1. THE EARTH (3ºE.P.)

UNIT  1
CELESTIAL BODIES
·         Planets, Stars and satellites
Planets, stars and satellites are celestial bodies:
-          The Earth is our planet and does not produce light and heat.
-          The Moon is the Earth´s satellite and does not produce light and heat.
-          The Sun is a star near the Earth and produce light and heat.

·         Why is there day and night?
The Earth rotates on its axis and it takes one day. It is day when the Sun lights the Earth and the other side, it is night because it is dark.

·         Names of the planet
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Unranus
Neptune

·         The Earth moves around the Sun
The Sun  is very big and the Earth takes one year to move around the Sun. The Earth is inclined and for these reason there are seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter .
-          Summer: it is hot and the days are long.
-          Spring: the days become longer.
-          Autumn: the days become shorter.
-          Winter: it is cold and the days are short.

The Earth
The exterior of The Earth
The Earth is formed of: Hydrosphere, atmosphere and geosphere.
-   Hydrosphere is all the water on the surface of The Earth. For example: oceans, rivers, seas, lakes.
-   Atmosphere is the air (a mixture of different gases, for example, oxygen).

The interior The Earth
The Earth is an enormous ball of rock called Geosphere.
The Geosphere is made up of three layers:
-   The crust is the surface of The Earth, where people live. It is a thin layer of rock.
-   The mantle is a thick layer of very hot rock.
-   The core is a ball of very hot metals in the centre of The Earth.
